Mission Statement

It is the responsibility of the Finance Office of Lamont-Doherty to provide accurate and timely services in the areas of:

Treasury Related Activities
Trust Management
General Accounting
Financial Reporting
Accounts Payable Disbursements
Labor Distribution Accounting
Restricted Funds
Indirect Cost Recovery Analysis and Monitoring
Budget Planning and Monitoring

Our mission is to ensure that all these functions, as well as the systems related to them, are adequately maintained, internal and external policies are adhered to, data and financial information is safeguarded and that the privacy of said information is kept strictly confidential.

The Finance Office will consistently monitor its systems and internal procedures and will seek to improve and/or implement new systems or procedures in support of the Observatory's missions.

Any and all suggestions for improvements, comments or criticism of this office will be immediately addressed.

We see our role within the University community as a very serious one, and take pride in our accomplishments. We seek to improve our services to this great institution in any way possible and to continue to foster a pro-active working relationship with our valued colleagues.

Roughly $25M in Labor is distributed and reconciled through Finance Office
Roughly 20,000 A/P transactions totaling $20M are processed through Finance Office
Roughly 600 Individual Sponsored Project Accounts with Budgets totaling $40M are monitored and reported through the Finance Office
Roughly 400 Institutional Accounts, including Endowments, with Budgets totaling $20M are monitored and reported through the Finance Office
All Capital Projects with total budgets from $1M to $10M are monitored and reported through the Finance Office
Monitor and analyze all components of separately negotiated ICR rate
