re: scheduled Internet outage

The failing WAN router was successfully replaced and caused an outage of a few minutes.  Our access to the commodity Internet and Internet 2 is back to nominal.

Scheduled Internet outage

At 8:30AM Thursday morning March 4th CUIT will again try to replace the router that connects LDEO & Nevis to the Internet.

Today's scheduled Internet outage

There were two short outages between 0815 and 0900 this morning as CUIT staff swapped our wide area router.

A mirrored diisk on lamont (the original older email system) failed at about 1820 this evening.

Short Network Outage

Our main Cisco router has been up for 2.5 years and has now started to log strange error messages. The router will be reloaded this eveing at 5PM.

Full Services Restored

The home directory server is back on line after reloading its disks' configuration, that it lost in the middle of the night.  The filesystem is fully available, and it is rebuilding for redund

We believe e-mail service has been restored for most or all users, but with the following caveats: home directories are still offline, and for now, forwarding and procmail processing will not happe

Service/Network Interruptions

One of the main home directory/NIS servers failed with disks/controller problems at about 2:40am on Wed Dec 2nd. This caused the interruption of services such as mail, web, and ftp.

Completed: short network outage

The router board was successfully replaced. There were two 30 second outages.

Short Network Outage

There will be a short network outage as a board in our main router is swapped. This outage should be on the order of 1 minute if all goes well.

LDEO Network status

The replacement Cisco hardware has not yet arrived, however, the LDEO network is running normally with the damaged ports re-routed to working hardware.

LDEO Network outage 9/30

A module in our main Cisco router failed sometime shortly prior to 3PM today. This
failure was masked by issues on the Seismology Cisco switch which was reset at about 4PM.

New Webmail Interface

Never use the old webmail interface after you have been converted to the new
LDEO mail server.  If you need to use a web interface for your mail, always use:

Mass Store Staging Problems

As of 10:30 am this morning users have been experiencing staging
problems on mass storage.   The problem has been tracked down

Web Document Folder Moved

We have moved the web document folder to a new server for a better perfomance, and for prepration for redundancy.

Mail Access Slow

Users with large mail boxes are having trouble connecting to lamont.ldeo.columbia.edu mail server. Some mail clients time out and indicate they can't connect.

LDEO FTP server scheduled outage

    The LDEO FTP server (ftp.ldeo.columbia.edu) will be off line for several hours this Friday to allow for a disk space upgrade. Please check any automatic scripts for failures.

The LDEO mail server is running very slowly at the moment. If you have a large INBOX please consider calling us to split it into smaller pieces. This will help both you and us.

Clarification -- LDEO Mail Server Outage

The LDEO mail server still does support pine and dtmail -- you do not have to switch to another email client. You may need to make configuration changes.

Oceanography Network Outage

Because of a power failure on Monday 9/1/08, the network resources in Oceanographty bldg is unreachable.  This is effecting some personal web pages, and local imap/pop folders to be unavailable. There is no network connections for the oceanography users at this time. We are investigating the outage. At present, there is no estimated uptime.

Emergency DNS upgrade

Chaos will be down for 30 minutes at 8PM this evening to upgrade the DNS server. The backup server should take over with minor delays.

Email access restored

Email slowed to a halt this afternoon. The system was allowed to quiesce at
its own pace to prevent damage to mailboxes and restarted a little after
